Cuba’s experience inspires us, says Russian Foreign Ministry

The experience of Cuba inspires us, said today the director of the Latin America Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alexandr Schetinin, referring to the island’s resistance against the US blockade.

Interviewed by the Prensa Latina news agency and the Telesur channel, the high-ranking official stressed that the example of the Caribbean island, of its resistance, shows to what extent Western foreign policy is hypocritical and circumstantial.

He warned that there is a group of countries that intends to build the world according to their rules, in addition to making international affairs hostage to their internal political considerations and the interests of a conservative and aggressive lobby.

According to Schetinin, the actions of the West reflect the impossibility of convincing that its policy is fair and that it is not isolated from the international community.

He warned that the cost of the blockade is in a dead end if it is applied against a country that is smaller in terms of territory, population and economic potential, but “much stronger because of the spirit of its people, because of its unwavering patriotism and because of the understanding that has a just cause in front of him, that has a just cause in front of him”.

We are very sorry that what was considered a leftover from the Cold War has become a practice of today’s American politicians, he said.

He pointed out that, apparently, it is difficult for Washington to think in terms other than sanctions, unilateral restrictions and illegitimate pressure with respect to the States that aspire to an independent and autonomous policy.

He assured that for this reason Moscow will consolidate its strategic association with the Antillean nation in the international arena, in the promotion of economic and commercial cooperation, in humanitarian assistance and in the strengthening of ties between the two peoples.

“And of course, our resounding, categorical condemnation against the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba will be invariable in the United Nations tribune,” emphasized the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
