#CubaPalaCalle: Don Omar reacts on Twitter to the protests in Pinar del Río and Havana

Don Omar, protestas

MIAMI, United States. – Puerto Rican singer Don Omar, known as The King of Reggaeton, reacted on twitter to the protests that occurred at dawn this Friday in the municipality of Los Palacios, Pinar del Río, and Centro Habana.

Don Omar barely tweeted the hashtag #CubaPaLaCalle, which became popular shortly after the demonstrations began this morning, but it generated a wave of grateful reactions.

“Don Omar, the people of Cuba thank you. #CubaPaLaCalle. International artists supporting our Cuba”, wrote on facebook Cuban singer Yotuel Romero.

For his part, the journalist José Raúl Gallego indicated on the same social network that it was “happening again”, alluding to the reaction of international musicians and artists who popularized the #SOSCuba label after the historic demonstrations on July 11 and 12, 2021 on the Island.

Around midnight this Friday, hundreds of people took to the streets of the Los Palacios municipality, in Pinar del Río. Several videos broadcast live on social networks showed a crowd crossing the streets of the town in the direction of the municipal headquarters of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) while they banged pots and chanted protest slogans.

In the recordings, the protesters are heard shouting loudly “We are hungry!”, “Turn on the power!”, “Díaz-Canel singao!” and even “Down with the dictatorship!”.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. this Friday, all live broadcasts originating from Los Palacios stopped, suggesting an alleged internet connection cutoff by Cuba’s telecommunications monopoly. ETECSA. In similar scenarios, the company has already limited its services to prevent new sources of protest from emerging.

At the same time, another demonstration of popular discontent was reported in Havana in front of the headquarters of the Government of the Centro Habana municipality. That protest was dissolved by agents of the PNR and the Political Police, as verified CubaNet From the scene.
