SLP, Mexico.- The International Lawyers and Consultants Firm (CONABI), based in Havana, announced that starting Monday, January 13, 2025, Cubans will be able to manage online the obtaining and legalization of certifications from the Civil Status Registry.

According to the information communicated this Friday in the profile of Facebook of CONABI, users may make the request using a telephone, computer or other device with Internet access, in Cuba or from abroad.

The entity of the regime explained, no appointment is required, the procedure can be carried out at any time of the day and it is constantly received information Updated on the status of the application.

To collect the documents, as indicated, the applicant may go to the corresponding office or, if he is not in the country, he may authorize a family member to collect the documentation on his behalf.

Payments for the online process, like the in-person process, have a cost of 400 CUP to obtain the certificate and 375 CUP for legalization. In addition, you must pay the value of the stamps, which varies “depending on the place of residence of the holder of the document.”

Despite this promotion that promises to alleviate the bureaucratic obstacles of in-person procedures and expedite the obtaining of documents, for the moment only 50 weekly applications will be accepted as it is still a “pilot test, with the aim of perfecting the mechanisms designed for this service and gradually increasing the response capacity.”

They also clarify in the comments section that any of the certifications cannot be requested online if the registration is not inserted in the digital system of the Civil Status Registry.

Cuba’s slow connectivity and the lack of Internet access for many Cubans will continue to force citizens to go to the Civil Registry offices, where the times to process documents are excessive.

The same route was implemented last year to obtain and legalize criminal records.

Sandra Rodríguez Pe, president and director of CONABI, then indicated that users should go to the institution’s headquarters only to collect the document, for which a mechanism different from the rest of the legalized documents would be enabled.

For her part, the Marketing and Communication specialist of that institution indicated that the rate for this modality is the same as for in-person applications: obtaining it for a value of 1,250 CUP and legalization for 375 CUP.

The duration of the process, highlighted Rodríguez Pe, would respond to several factors, although they assured “working to achieve interoperability with the Central Registry of Sanctioned Persons to make it even more expeditious.”
