The sprinter Shainer Reginfo and the hurdler Keily Pérez agreed this Wednesday to the awards podium of the International Grand Prix on the City of Valencia Indoor Track, Spainmarking the debut of the Cubans in the current season of athletics on indoor tracks.
World medalist among juniors, Shainer opened his record in this type of competition marking 6.64 seconds to dominate the first of the two semifinals of the 60 meters at the Palau Velódrom Lluis Puig.
However, in the final he could not improve his performance and closed with a record of 6.71 seconds, according to the results published on the website of the Valencian Athletics Federation.
In that race he was surpassed by the local Sergio López, who reached the finish line in 6.70 seconds. The third position corresponded to the British Dewi Hammond (6.75).
For Keilyla the Iberian joust also represented her indoor debut. She started covering the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.31 seconds.
Shortly after, she stopped the clocks in 8.52 seconds, but had to settle for third place, coming behind the locals Paula Blanquer (8.29 seconds) and Elba Parmo (8.43 seconds).
For Cubans, the times set in the semifinal segments are recorded as personal bests. Their next presentations are announced for the indoor event in Sabadell, also on Spanish soil, next Sunday.
The athletics managers planned to present Greisy Robles this Wednesday, also in the 60-meter hurdles test for women. However, the young runner presented discomfort and they decided to postpone her debut so as not to risk the rest of the season, as explained in a note published by the sports portal Hit.
Another incursion of the Cuban athletes in the current winter season is scheduled for this Friday, with the presentation of the triple jumpers Liadagmis Povea and Leyanis Pérez in Karlsruhe, Germany. This will be the first meeting of the gold category in the calendar of the World Athletics Indoor Tour 2023.
The Cuban Athletics Federation announced that it would cover the current winter season with a group of ten competitors who already had their presence assured in 16 indoor competitions organized until February 23 in various European cities.
