For the Cuban pitcher Yosver Zulueta, a new horizon opens in the Major Leagues (MLB, for its acronym in English), after this Thursday the Seattle Mariners announced their hiring for the upcoming season.
The arrival of the 27-year-old from Villa Clara to his new destination was achieved through an exchange from the Cincinnati Reds, a team that also added right-handed pitcher Dusty Ravis.

During his time at the Triple A level of his previous team, Zulueta had the possibility of making the final leap to the MLB, although without the necessary results to ensure continuity.
Hours before the change was known, the Reds had placed the Cuban on assignment, based on his irregular performance during the last two seasons with the team.
During his debut in the Big League, in June 2024 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he set an earned run average of 4.96, allowing 10 runs in 16.1 innings of performance, according to the official statistics.
Last season his performance was marked by ups and downs, and he was barely in the box in 7.1 innings spread over seven games, with an ERA of 6.14.
Cubans in MLB: pitcher Yosver Zulueta left a good image in his debut
His most recent appearances in the MLB took place at the beginning of last September against the Toronto Blue Jays, the team that opened the doors of the MLB to him as a prospect.
Between those three appearances he added two innings of action and scored one of the three successes he has accumulated so far at the highest level, in which he has recorded two defeats.
Zuleta will have the challenge ahead of him to make the best of his repertoire, based on excellent speed, but above all improve his control to earn a place in the bullpen of his new team, in need of depth to aspire to the postseason.
The player will be the sixth reliever to join the Mariners’ 40-man roster this offseason, which already includes José A. Ferrer, Alex Hoppe, Ryan Loutos, Robinson Ortiz and Cole Wilcox.
