Once its premiere in the Major Leagues (MLB, for its acronym in English), the Cuban outfielder hoped that the upcoming campaign would help him consolidate himself at the highest level within the Miami Marlins.
However, the Florida team’s management took a step in the opposite direction on Tuesday by designating the young player for assignment, which places him at the mercy of interest from other franchises to continue his short career.

For the movement, expectations and needs were combined. The Marlins needed space to add right-handed reliever Garret Acton to their main roster, and the sacrifice ended up being the Cuban, who after seven years at the lower levels has not made the leap in quality that was expected.
In addition to the repeated injuries and offensive inconsistency, the abundance of troops at the Marlins’ disposal to cover his position conspired against the youngest of the Mesa clan.
For the Cuban, there is a period of waiting that should not exceed two weeks to know his immediate future. Management has the option to trade him for another player or keep him in waiversfrom where it can be rescued by another organization.
In his favor is his youth – 25 years old – and his notable virtues of speed and defense, even though his brief time in the MLB has made it clear how much he needs to grow to establish himself at that level.
According to official statistics, Mesa Jr. only had six hits in 32 opportunities, leaving an anemic offensive average of .188.
With the decision made, the Marlins end the bond that began with the two sons of the legendary Víctor Mesa when former star shortstop Derek Jetter took the sporting reins of the team.
Víctor Víctor, the oldest and also an outfielder, was signed in exchange for a five million dollar bonus, but never managed to be promoted to the main roster.
His time in the Minors ended abruptlywhen he unilaterally left the team due to disagreements with the management, and ended up placed on a restricted list, which prevents him from continuing to play.
Andy Ibáñez out of the Dodgers
The recent signs as a free agent with the Los Angeles Dodgersafter being discarded by the Detroit Tigers for the next season, seemed to ensure the continuity of Cuban Andy Ibáñez in the MLB.
However, the link with the champions of the last two editions of the World Series did not last until the start of the season, and the designation for assignment in the last hours has put his future in limbo.
The Dodgers named OF Mike Siani and designated IF Andy Ibáñez for assignment.

The acquisition of the 32-year-old player aimed at consolidating a formation, taking into account Andy’s abilities to defend various positions in the box.
That perspective faded when Dodgers management leaned toward the option of clearing his spot for outfielder Mike Siani, who had been placed on waivers by the New York Yankees.
Ibáñez landed in the MLB in 2021 with the Texas Rangers, with whom he remained for two seasons. His time with Detroit lasted the next three years, and in the last one he posted a .239 offensive average, with eight doubles, four homers and 21 RBIs.
