incendio Matanzas Cuba

MIAMI, United States.- CubaNet was in Matanzas this Monday afternoon to show live images of the fire that since last Friday, August 5, has consumed three of the eight fuel tanks of the Supertanker Base, located in the industrial area of that city.

The climatic conditions have not helped in the work to extinguish the flames, since the strong wind has made the fire advance more and more. What began with a tank, because, according to the government, of lightning, already this monday goes for three and in danger of spreading.

According to our reporter on the spot, the air feels heavy even to breathe, and in the images the sky is covered by a large black cloud.

A few minutes ago, the CubaNet reporter also recounts, several ambulances were heard, apparently with wounded heading to the Military Hospital.

According to local residents, the column of smoke emanating from the Super Tanker Base is much wider than last Friday, which would have to do with the number of fuel tanks that are burning at the moment.

Right now, among the locals and the authorities, there is only fear that the fire will spread to the gasoline and naphtha tanks that are meters from the incident.

As part of the actions that the regime is carrying out in the country in the face of the fire, so far out of control, this Monday at noon the Electric Union (UNE) of Cuba reported that the Thermoelectric Power Plant Antonio Guiteras went out of operations.

The largest thermoelectric plant in Cuba was left without a water supply to remain in operation, according to the official media outlet Cubadebate.

And although water is being supplied by pipes, the amount that is pumped is not enough to keep the thermoelectric plant running. According to the UNE, there is an affectation of 1,192 MW in the country’s electrical system.

The engineer Lázaro Guerra Hernández, technical director of the UNE, told the state media that the Guiteras will only be able to start working if the water supply necessary for the operation of the thermoelectric plant is recovered.

“Currently water is pumped for the plant, but it cannot be guaranteed that it will come into operation for maximum demand,” the manager told the Girón newspaper, from Matanzas province.

The fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base has so far left at least 125 people injured, including journalists and even the country’s Minister of Energy and Mines, there are 15 firefighters still missing, and two were reported as fatalities .
