CubaNet premieres “Los Condenados”, a podcast about political prisoners in Cuba

MIAMI, United States. — The Podcast the damneda space to expose the cruelty of the Cuban regime against its political prisoners, had its premiere this Wednesday through different platforms from CubaNet.

Hosted by journalist Maite Luna and activist Marcel Valdés, the podcast addressed in its first broadcast the cases of Sissi Abascal Zamora, Sayli Navarro Álvarez and Maykel Puig Bergolla, demonstrators of the anti-government protests on July 11, 2021.

The Lady in White Sissi Abascal Zamora was sentenced to six years in prison for having participated in the July 11 demonstrations in the Matanzas town of Carlos Rojas. In December 2021, the Jovellanos Court of Appeals ratified the sentence against her.

“Sissi is in good health. He has been in that La Belloté prison in Matanzas province since December 27. She has been subjected to several interrogations, where she is always told to repent. She says that she does not regret anything, ”Annia Zamora, the young woman’s mother, told Los Condenados.

The case of the Navarro Álvarez family

In the women’s prison of La Belloté is the activist Sayli Navarro Álvarez, daughter of Felix Navarrocoordinator of the Movement for Democracy Pedro Luis Boitel and vice president of the Council for the Democratic Transition in Cuba (CTDC).

“Sayli is an example of a young woman dedicated to her activism. She is a magnificent girl, from a magnificent family. A sign that the best of Cuba is against the Castro-communist dictatorship,” said former political prisoner Adolfo Fernández, a friend of the Navarro Álvarez family.

Saily and Félix Navarro were sentenced to nine and eight years in prison, respectively, for their participation in the 11J demonstrations.

Maykel Puig Bergolla, 20 years in prison

Another Cuban who remains in prison for his participation in the protests that day is Maykel Puig Bergolla, who received a 20-year prison sentence.

His wife, Saily Núñez Pérez, commented to the CubaNet podcast about the irregularities and “false crimes” that were attributed to the political prisoner, whose family resides in the municipality of Güines, Mayabeque province.
