The Cuban chess player Yaniela Forgas completed this Friday all the rules required to become a female Grand Master, by completing a good performance in the strong international tournament City of Gijon, in Spain.

Although it will be necessary to wait for the International Chess Federation (Fide) to make the title official, the current champion of the Island complied with the requirements established by that organization to become the eleventh Antillean chess player to achieve such recognition, according to a note published in the sports portal Hit.

The woman from Santiago accumulated 3.5 points in the nine games played in the Iberian contest, which included the participation of four male Grand Masters (GM) and an average rating of 2,472 units, more than 100 above her personal record (2,343). , add the information.

With a draw against the local International Master (IM) Pedro Antonio Ginés, the Cuban player said goodbye to the Spanish event, in which she beat the Argentine IM Marcelo Panelo and the Spanish IM Enrique Tejedor, and agreed a draw, in addition, with the GM Cuban Lelys Martínez and IM Alex Garrido, from Spain.
