MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban writer Chely Lima, one of the authors of the most prolific fantastic genre in Cuba during the 1970s and 1980s, died this Saturday in Miami, at the age of 66.
In Cuba, Chely Lima is especially remembered for having written, together with her partner Alberto Serret (1947-2000), the mythical series shiralad (1990). He was also a scriptwriter for the popular television series on the side of the heart Y Today is always still.

A few years ago Chely Lima, whose birth name was Graciella Lima Álvarez, decided to change her identity.
Upon confirming the news of his death, his friend and writer Daína Chaviano dedicated some emotional words: “What can I say when someone who was an indelible part of the most intense and creative years of my life has passed away? What can I add to the loss of my closest writer friend – spirit twin in dreams and literary fantasies – during the most fruitful and experimental decades of our twenties, when we were in the midst of our formative and creative period?
Chaviano also expressed: “Even today, I remain faithful to that friendship that distance has left indelible in my spirit, because as Chely herself wrote to me in the dedication of one of her poems: `The heart does not know about distances. It only knows pain for the absent ones we love.
In the 1990s, Chely Lima and Alberto Serret went to live in Ecuador, where Lima worked for radio and television. After Serret’s death, he spent a few years in Argentina and in 2008 he settled in Miami, where he lived until his death.
