MIAMI, United States. – Cuban discus thrower Yaimé Pérez (aka La Rusa), world champion and Olympic medalist in discus throwing, joined the ninth season of Exathlon United States All Starsa popular reality sports program on the Telemundo network that offers a prize of $200,000 to the winner.
The new season, in which Pérez is a member of the Blue Team, started this Tuesday, December 10.
Competing alongside her is another Cuban, Yoridán Martínez, champion in a previous edition of the same program and former baseball player who came to represent the Spanish team. Both will face the Red Team contenders in a challenge of physical and mental endurance considered “the fiercest competition on the planet.”
Pérez, 33 years old and originally from Santiago de Cuba, was world champion in Doha 2019 and won bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. However, her sporting career changed direction after leaving the Cuban delegation in 2022 at the end of the World Cup. of Athletics in Eugene, Oregon, and settle in the United States.
This year, she recorded a throw of 73.09 meters in the Oklahoma Throwing Series, an exceptional mark that places her among the best discus throwers of the last three decades.
