CDMX, Mexico. – Four million 92 thousand 500 doses arrived on Friday, November 26 at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), built during the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and controlled by the Mexican military.

The Ministry of Health announced that the vaccines against Covid-19 will be used in adults, despite the fact that the Mexican government had previously declared otherwise. In May of this year, President López Obrador had said that the Abdala vaccine would be used in the inoculation campaign for children under 11 years of age, although in the end the biologic used for this purpose was that of Pfizer.

The package, transported by a Mexican Air Force plane, arrives almost a year after the Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) approved its emergency use in Mexico. However, the World Health Organization has not yet approved the vaccine.

What do we know about Abdala?

Such data transcended from scientific publications that, until the end of 2021They did not have peer review. The texts were financed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), the center that developed the vaccine itself.

In its release on November 8, the WHO reported that abdala It was in the revision phase. They had not yet ruled on the dossier that Cuba presented with information.

Abdala, despite not being approved, is the most advanced vaccine produced in Cuba in the WHO process. The vaccines made by BioCubaFarma, Soberana 01, Soberna 02 and Soberana Plus have not yet delivered the information requested by the WHO, and that they require to evaluate them.

With Abdala’s doses, Mexico has received 193 million 231 thousand 845 packaged vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, CanSino Biologics, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and, now, Abdala.

The arrival of this biological in Mexico is yet another sample of the strengthening of relations between the Cuban regime and the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
