Cuban triple jumpers climb to the podium in Europe

The cuban athletes continue to achieve good results during the current winter season in Europe. This Saturday it was the triple jumpers who got on the podium in an indoor event in Paris.

The best results came in the women’s sector, where again Liadagmis Povea and Leyanis Pérez won the gold and silver medals, although with more discreet marks than in previous presentations.

Povea won with a record of 14.26 meters at the 2023 Paris Indoor Athletic Meeting, “with which he continues to lead the Cuban harvest in this specialty this season,” aim the digital site Hit.

On this occasion, the disciple of the former jumper Yoelbi Quesada executed four of the six possible jumps, and was seconded by Leyanis Pérez, who stretched to 14.18 meters.

The third place was in the hands of the Turkish Tugba Danismaz (14.13 meters), reports the sports publication.

In this way, Povea achieved his second title of the season, after the one achieved in Karlsruhe, Germany, with an indoor personal record of 14.64 meters. In addition, he added a second place in Mondeville, France, where he reached 14.39, “which shows his regularity in this campaign in indoor competitions,” he points out. Hit.

In this last test his compatriot Pérez had reigned, with 14.48.

Meanwhile, the indoor world champion Lázaro Martínez took silver in Paris, thanks to a jump of 17.24 meters. The scepter was conquered by Hugues Fabrice Zango, from Burkina Faso, who reached 17.43 meters, while Andy Díaz, also Cuban, was third with 16.91, although he does not represent the island’s federation.

The one who does is the returnee Cristian Nápoles, who could barely mark 16.22 to anchor in fifth place. About him, the report clarifies that “he was the last to join the group that fulfills commitments in the winter season and goes through a process of adaptation to the change of scenery.”

Also this Saturday, the Cuban long jumper Maikel Vidal won bronze at the Metz Indoor Athletics Meeting. His best jump on this French stage was 7.73 meters, which earned him to escort the American Marquis Dendy (8.01) and the Romanian Gabriel Bitan (7.94).

In the coming days, the Cuban vaulters will compete again in Europe. The triple jumpers will be next Wednesday in the French town of Liévin, in one of the gold category stops of the World Athletics Indoor Tour 2023, “so the assistance of other good-level rivals is expected,” he points out. Hit.

The day before, the high jumper Luis Enrique Zayas will try to continue his trail of success by speaking at the international meeting in Banská Bystrica, in Slovakia. There he will seek to exceed 2.30 meters for the first time in the campaign and thus achieve his fourth podium of the year.
