MIAMI, United States. — Student organizations subordinated to the Cuban regime called on the island’s youth to publish content in favor of the general elections, which will take place on March 26.
The call was made by the Federation of High School Students (FEEM) and the University Student Federation (FEU), whose members are usually very active on social networks.
According to the state agency Latin Pressboth organizations asked their members to make GIFs, Reels, short videos (between 30 and 45 seconds) or snapshots in sequence, “that communicate the importance of participation in the elections and of looking at the future with optimism and hope.”
The call was extended to the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM), which brings together all school-age children from first grade to ninth grade. In the case of minors, they may “send drawings, photographs, short messages, poems and tenths where they reflect their experiences in caring for the polls, their contribution to the polling stations and participation with the family.”
The Hermanos Saíz Association, an official organization that brings together young Cuban artists, asked designers, visual artists and other creators to make one or up to three posters about the general elections.
For its part, the newspaper rebel youth “invited to make a meme, cartoon or GIF equally inspired by popular participation in the electoral process and its relevance for Cuban society.”
Latin Press reported that the deadline for admission of the materials will be until February 28, 2023. The official media indicated that, more than individual awards, the organizers are looking for a message in favor of the elections on social networks.
The general elections will take place on March 26.
