MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban singer Luna Manzanares has not stopped being applauded in Spain for her interpretation of the pop diva Rachel Marron in the musical The bodyguard.
This musical is a theatrical version of the film of the same name, which broke box office records around the world after its premiere in 1992, starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.
To present this piece, Manzaneras began a tour with the Letsgo company last year through a large number of cities in Spain.
The bodyguard includes 15 songs by Whitney Houston, among them “Run to you”, “I have nothing”, “So emotional”, “One moment in time”, “Queen of the night”; and, of course, the iconic “I will always love you,” for which the film’s soundtrack became the best-selling soundtrack in history.
Luna Manzanares, who had already played Tina Turner in the musical TUB, in a recent interview with the Spanish media Salamanca Tribuneexplained about his work in The bodyguard: “In addition to being a musical that has many nuances, because it has comedy, musical quality… we have a great time with each other, because there is a very good vibe, good energy, a very talented cast and great human qualities. The one learns from the other every day. It is a true honor to be able to go on stage with such talented colleagues and that, in addition, we can call each other family. That is a privilege that is not always achieved”.
The musical, which has already been presented in ValladolidLas Palmas, Tenerife, Salamanca… will have its next stops in San Sebastián, Pamplona and Albacete.
Luna Manzanares was the first young Latin American to be recognized by France as a Knight of Arts and Letters, after its premiere at the Châtelet Theater in Paris in 2016. Carmen the Cuban the first musical on the island.
