MIAMI, United States. – The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ARC) was elected member of the International Democratic Union (IDU) during the “IDU Forum 2024” held this December 6 in Washington DC
The organization obtained the full support of the Union of Latin American Parties (UPLA), as reported in a statement on December 9.
Julián Obiglio, president of UPLA, and Rafael Pizano, representing the ARC, participated in the forum, attended by international leaders, political scientists and senior officials of conservative parties committed to freedom and democracy.
The IDU, considered the world’s largest federation of conservative democratic parties, promotes values such as individual freedom, strengthening the family, building better governments and supporting parties in emerging democracies that comply with these principles.
The ARC, which promotes individual freedom, democracy and respect for human rights, indicated that it feels “deeply supported” by the UPLA.
Earlier this month, the Chilean Senate also recognized the work of the ARC in its denunciation of the crisis situation and human rights violations on the Island and called for international action against the Cuban regime.
In one conference press conference held on December 4 at the headquarters of the Cuban Democratic Directorate in Miami, Chilean senator Francisco Chauán, sponsor of the historic resolution which urges the government of that country to take action due to the “very serious situation in Cuba”, declared its commitment to freedom and democracy on the Island.
In turn, he explained that the resolution calls on Gabriel Boric to act in the face of the Cuban crisis and demand that the regime end the repression and immediately release all political prisoners.
The measure, approved unanimously, is a “historical reference and model for other legislative bodies,” as described by the Secretary General of the ARC, Orlando Gutiérrez-Boronat, as revealed in a press release from the organization.
On that occasion, Julián Obiglio extolled the importance of an alliance of governments and democratic political parties in favor of the freedom of Cuba and ratified UPLA’s commitment to the Cuban cause and its support for the resolution of the Chilean Senate.
