MIAMI, United States. – The Department of Social Prosperity of Colombia elected as its new regional director in Bogotá the Cuban Charlotte Schneider Callejas. The news was confirmed through a tweet in the official account of the entity, in which the social activist is welcomed as the new leader of the region.
“Welcome Charlotte Schneider Callejas as Bogota Regional Director! Activist for the rights of women, LGBTI sectors and ethnic groups”, indicates the tweet.
According to Colombian media, Schneider is a biochemist graduated from the Faculty of Biology of the University of Havana. She also has a specialization in feminist and gender studies at the Faculty of Human Sciences of the National University of Colombia.
In addition, she is a social activist and defender of the rights of women, the LGBTI community, migrant-refugees, black and Afro-descendant ethnic communities and peoples.
Schneider is also an advocate of peace processes through various platforms, collectives, and organizations at the national and international level. In addition, she has worked in the public, private and civil society sectors.
Likewise, she has experience in active mobility, gender, road safety, personal safety, citizen participation, communication, universal accessibility and labor participation.
Her arrival at the Bogotá regional office of Social Prosperity has been well received by different sectors, especially those who fight for women’s rights and the LGBTI communityand that they hope that the leadership of a trans woman will contribute to greater inclusion and equity in the region.
