Cuban reporter Adelth Bonne threatened at home

Adelth Bonne, Cuba, seguridad del estado

MADRID, Spain.- This Sunday the independent reporter and contributor of CubaNetAdelth Bonne, was confronted and threatened in his own home by two women who, according to his statements, were acting on behalf of the Cuban government. The women said they disagreed with Bonne’s journalistic work and activism, both in CubaNet as on their social networks.

In a recorded video Bonne himself can see the women who tried to intimidate him. During the confrontation, Bonne described the women’s appearance, emphasizing their physical condition and their belongings, such as a broken mobile phone. “Look at these women with a cane, one without teeth and the other with a broken phone, coming to threaten me on a Sunday,” the activist said.

Bonne, who was forcibly removed from his profession as an art instructor and became a freedom activist in Cuba, also referred to the precarious conditions faced by the two women, pointing out the contradiction that, despite living in poverty, they work for a regime that is not capable of providing them with the minimum conditions of a decent life. “They should feel ashamed of spending a Sunday and coming here,” he said in the video.

The journalist, known for his activism and open criticism of the Cuban regime, denounced the women as “snitches” for the government and stressed the absurdity of the situation, indicating that if State Security had something against them, they should send the police directly instead of delegating people in such a precarious state. “Tell the revolution to give you teeth and at least give you a phone,” Bonne told one of the women.

“Nobody here agrees with this dictatorship, which is not even capable of giving its people 24 hours of electricity, which is not capable of giving them food,” he added, reaffirming his critical stance against the Cuban government.

This incident adds to the numerous acts of intimidation against activists and independent journalists on the island, including Adelth, who face constant threats and harassment for their work defending freedom of expression and denouncing human rights violations in Cuba.

Bonne, at 29 years old, is a communicator who transmits to the people the reality of the Island in crisis. CubaNet takes the program Worming with Adelth where he addresses current issues of relevance to the population, which has become another platform for protesting against the regime.

On several occasions, State Security has cut off his internet access to prevent him from broadcasting and has called him on the phone to warn him not to leave his house.
