MIAMI, United States.- Nearly a year after the massive anti-government protests that shook Cuba on Sunday, July 11, 2021, sources from the island denounce that the government is using schools to house police and military with the aim of stopping any attempt at popular outburst.

According to journalist Mario Pentón, a “100% reliable source in Cienfuegos” revealed that there are schools that are going to close starting tomorrow. In these buildings “the police and military will be housed for July 11.”

“Schools will be closed until Wednesday,” he said, and one of these institutions is the José Gregorio polytechnic, located in the center of the city.

According to Pentón, the government is preparing for the anniversary of the historic protests, “meetings are being held in workplaces, they are telling Cubans that they have to be prepared with sticks to go out and confront those who take to the streets. . They are holding meetings at Party headquarters, where cell phones are taken from participants at the entrance, to explain why the stores in MLC are important.”

Some schools have been evacuated to house soldiers and police to repress the Cuban people, explained the Miami-based journalist in a video posted on his YouTube profile.

The reports come from various schools across the country. According to Pentón, the staff have been told that they will not work on Monday and Tuesday. “The schools are going to be used as barracks for police, military and State Security agents,” said Mario Pentón.

The protests of July 11, 2021, which took place in more than 60 locations throughout the island, unleashed a brutal repression by the government and to this day, a year later, hundreds of people still remain in prison with sentences imprisonment of up to 30 years.
