Cuban regime imposes sentences of nine, eight and five years in jail to three activists

Miami, United States. – The Provincial Court of Havana confirmed the sentences of nine, eight and five years in prison against the opponents Daniel Alfaro Frías, José Antonio Pompa López and Lázaro Mendoza García, respectively, for the crime of “propaganda against the constitutional order,” said Martí News This Monday.

Suarmi Hernández Vilar, wife of Pompa López, described the process as unfair: “I realize that all the trial was manipulated, a paripé, because there it was shown that this crime of ‘propaganda against the constitutional order’ did not proceed and then now (…) this sanction that goes down, (…) an injustice that they are committing with them, as if they were murderers or terrorists,” he said.

The woman emphasized the non -violent character of the defendants: “They are three peaceful men who have fought for more than 15 years against this regime, demanding the freedom of our people, demanding that human rights are not violated. Everything is for them to be in the Cuba first movement.”

According to the “provisional conclusions” of the case cited by Martí News, Pompa López – pointed out as Cuba first coordinator – is attributed to receive financing from abroad, distribute “anti -government” printed materials and appear in a video found on his computer with the other two defendants while distributed those printed ones.

Although the first instance sentences to opponents are immovable, relatives advanced that they will exhaust the available resources. Cuban legislation provides that the appeal occur within five days of the notification of the resolution.
