Cuban regime gives the green light to 110 new private MSMEs

MIAMI, United States — The Cuban Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP) ad this Thursday the approval of 110 private MSMEs, for which a total of 3,874 enterprises of this type have been approved on the Island since September 2021.

In addition to the 110 MSMEs, the creation of the non-agricultural cooperative Grafomanía La Habana was approved, a center for the manufacture of games and toys that will operate in the municipality of Centro Habana.

The MEP highlighted that of the 3,980 new independent economic actors that have emerged as of 2021, 3,925 are MSMEs (3,874 private and 51 state-owned) and 55 are cooperatives.

According to information from that organization, 54% of the new economic actors are business reconversions and 46% are new ventures and are expected to generate 66,384 new jobs.

The MEP highlights that of all the applications of MSMEs and non-agricultural cooperatives approved, 121 are integrated into local development projects and 11 are developed in the Science and Technology Park of Havana.

In accordance with the laws established by the Cuban regime, micro, small and medium enterprises they are constituted as economic actors with legal personality, focused on the development of the production of goods and the provision of services.

According to the provisions, these may be both private and state at the request of natural persons of Cuban nationality, residents in the country or of pre-existing state entities.

The procedures for the creation of MSMEs in Cuba are carried out mostly digitally through the Platform of Economic Actors, of the MEP.

Among the requirements demanded by the authorities of the Island for the creation of an MSME are the presentation of the application project; the reaction of the demand deposit account for the contribution to the company’s capital stock; the formalization of the notarial deed of constitution thereof; registration in the commercial register; in the registry in the National Office of the Tax Administration (ONAT); opening current account; registration in the Central Commercial Registry, where applicable); and registration with the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI).
