Cuban Regime Appreciates U.S. Help for Hurricane Ian Victims

Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba, Estados Unidos

MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban regime thanked this Tuesday the humanitarian aid that the United States will offer to those affected by the passage of Hurricane Ian, which devastated numerous communities in the west of the island.

The official response came through a note of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (MINREX).

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appreciates the offer of aid of two million dollars provided by the Department of State of the United States for Cubans affected by the damage of Hurricane Ian,” the statement highlights.

The Foreign Ministry pointed out that the aid “will be channeled through the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, an organization to which Cuba belongs and with which it has a long and fluid relationship.”

The declaration adds that “this contribution will contribute to the enormous recovery and reconstruction efforts carried out by the national authorities together with the people.”

“Cuba has received and appreciates the material support and solidarity of various governments and international organizations and other countries in the face of the immense material damage caused by the hurricane and the hard task of recovery,” adds the official statement.

The Cuban foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, also extended his gratitude on social networks.

“We appreciate the offer of humanitarian aid from the United States. The material contribution valued at 2 million USD through the International Federation of the Red Cross will contribute to our recovery efforts and support to those affected by the ravages of Hurricane Ian”, the official pointed out in his account Twitter.

The note from the Foreign Ministry does not mention the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the organization through which the aid will be delivered.
