LIMA, Peru – The Cuban regime appointed its new ambassador in Mexico, one of the closest allied countries to Havana and its interests after the capture of Nicolás Maduro on January 3.
Eugenio Martínez, former general director of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) on the island, now leads Cuban diplomacy in Mexico City.
Martínez took office this week in the Aztec country and held a first meeting at the embassy headquarters with Cubans residing in Mexico and Mexicans.
“This way we will work day and night to defend the indestructible relationship between Mexico and Cuba, between the Mexican and Cuban people, against any threat,” said the diplomat. in a published video through the diplomatic headquarters.
To formalize his position before the Government of Claudia Sheinbaum, the new ambassador must still present his credentials to the Mexican authorities. Martínez is also known within Castro diplomacy for his previous role as ambassador to Spain.
Since his recent position in Mexico, the Cuban has dedicated himself to synchronizing and amplifying the official discourse of the Havana regime, paying special attention to honoring the 32 Cubans who died in Venezuela protecting the dictator Maduro.
Most of the publications in the diplomatic headquarters in recent days have been dedicated to highlighting the propaganda of the Cuban dictatorship. After denying the island’s military presence in Caracas for years, the communist tyranny responds to the fall of its farce with a fierce campaign to exalt its fallen henchmen, whom it tries to turn into heroes.
“Several colleagues from the Cuban embassy in Mexico signed the book of condolences opened at the Venezuelan Embassy for those who died in the defense of that brother country against US aggression and we accompanied the Venezuelan ambassador and her group,” he wrote. The new ambassador takes office at a time of tension for Castro’s policy within the region. Likewise, the decision occurs in a context of a deep energy crisis in Cuba, marked by a severe fuel shortage that has caused prolonged blackouts and impacts on transportation and economic activity. The Island depends largely of crude oil imports to sustain its electrical system, and Mexico has become one of its main suppliers in recent years.
