AREQUIPA, Peru – The Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology (EIMB) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and the Immunoassay Center of the Group of Cuban biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, Biocubafarma, signed this Sunday a cooperation agreement for the scientific research.

This is the second agreement between the Cuban regime and Russia that transcends since 2025 began. The collaboration between Havana and Moscow in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical field has been consolidated since 2024 with several agreements in these branches.
Last June, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced an initial investment of $11.3 million in the Cuban state company BioCubaFarma for the development of drugs against geriatric and oncological diseases.
The investment, which could double in the future to reach 1 billion rubles ($11.26 million at the current exchange rate), aims to strengthen drug research and production in Russia, reducing dependence on imports and creating a own industrial base in the health sector.
“We strive to attract the best global drug producers to the Russian market to localize research and production, replace imports and create our own industrial base,” said Kiril Dmitriev, general director of the RDIF, quoted by the official media. Cubadebate.
