MIAMI, United States. – The family of José Daniel Ferrer García denounced this Friday that the Cuban regime had again denied them the right to visit the coordinator of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU).
This May 5, Ferrer’s wife, Nelva Ortega, and their daughter, Fátima Ferrer, went to the Mar Verde prison in Santiago de Cuba for the regulatory visit; however, the authorities denied the meeting.
“They went because Nelva received a phone call from a political police repressor who told her that they could see him this Friday,” he told CubaNet Ana Belkis Ferrer, sister of the opponent and member of UNPACU.
Since March 11, when the conjugal visit took place, no family member has had contact with the political prisoner, not even through telephone calls.
The last news received by the family was through the Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba who visited Ferrer on March 17.
“We are very worried. Daniel’s health outlook continued to be worrisome since the last time his wife saw him. He has a bacterium on his skin, he continues with his serious stomach problems, ringing in the ears, headaches, cramps and momentary paralysis in his hands, ”warned Ana Belkis.
The family of the opposition leader assures that the prohibition of telephone calls applied to Ferrer had to do with the complaints and messages that he made. “We fear that the hitmen of the dictatorship have him like last time in his underwear and in a punishment cell. We hold Raúl Castro, Díaz-Canel and all the hitmen involved in this cruel situation responsible for the life of José Daniel,” said the opponent’s sister.
Also this Friday, the Americas section of Amnesty International spoke about it. “Since March 17, José Daniel Ferrer has been incommunicado. Díaz-Canel and the state authorities have the obligation to allow his relatives to communicate and visit him # CubaSinRepresión ”.
José Daniel Ferrer, also a promoter of Cuba Decide and president of the People’s Party, was jailed on July 11, 2021, for trying to join the historic protests that took place that day in the country.
