SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- The reggaeton singer Cuban Ovidio Crespo Retureta Ovi He was arrested on Tuesday, September 17, in Miami, after allegedly pointing a firearm at a driver.
According to the arrest report, the arrest came after an incident in which he pointed a gun at a driver. The alleged victim, Giuseppe Benignini, shared a video on social media showing a car belonging to Ovi and the interpreter inside pointing a gun at him.
The incident occurred the day before arreston State Route 90 near the Turnpike. Benignini was traveling on the highway when Ovi’s McLaren changed lanes and nearly collided with Benigni’s car, according to the arrest report.
After honking, Ovi displayed a firearm. When the cars stopped side by side, the Cuban pointed the gun again.
The Cuban reggaeton singer faces charges of inappropriate exhibition of a firearm and aggravated assault. During his arrest, agents found Percocet pills, a controlled drug prescribed for pain, which added an additional charge.
The singer’s police record indicates that he was given bail of $8,000 for the crimes.
“How can these people who call themselves artists commit a crime and then threaten you and pull out a gun? What would have happened if they had shot me? I don’t understand, people who call themselves artists,” the young complainant said on his social networks.
The reggaeton singer was taken to Miami-Dade’s TGK jail to appear in court on Wednesday.
Ovi has been arrested several times in the United States, including for a confrontation with another singer in 2021 where he displayed a firearm in public.
The 28-year-old singer was arrested in 2022 for domestic violence after his son’s mother, Ada Urquijo, reported him for hitting her during an argument.
Authorities said Ada Urquijo had argued with the Cuban singer over custody of the baby and he hit her in the face.
