Cuban Police arrest three repatriated rafters for the theft of a water bike

Alejandro Tamayo Chacón, a rafter returned to Cuba by the US last week, was arrested on Saturday at his home in Habana del Este. The Cuban Police accuses him of having stolen the aquatic bicycle with which he was trying to reach Florida by sea, according to the family. channel from Miami Telemundo 51.

His acquaintances circulated from the same Saturday images of the arrest, which turned violent in the midst of the young man’s resistance. The family demanded that a court order be shown, according to the young man’s wife, who is eight months pregnant.

“We are very indignant, we want justice,” Tamayo Chacón’s wife explained to Telemundo. While he struggled with the agents, the detainee himself looked at the phone camera with which the arrest was recorded, saying: “Look what they are doing to me, upload it to Facebook, upload it.”

“They are accusing my husband of resistance. They say that they stole the water bike, but they have no evidence. I told him to show it to me, but he did not show it to me. I am very upset, very hurt, very stressed because they entered my house without a court order, they entered as they pleased, “added the detainee’s wife.

From his statements it is clear that the other two rafters who were traveling with Tamayo Chacón on the water bike for recreational use on July 9 were also arrested.

From their statements it can be deduced that the other two rafters who were traveling with Tamayo Chacón on the recreational water bike were also arrested on July 9 when they were intercepted by the US Coast Guard, although nothing has emerged regarding their two companions.

The US repatriated the three young people, whose image uploaded on the leisure boat became iconic, last Wednesday in a return operation of 77 people. “I did not know that my son had left the country, and if he did, it was for a good reason: economic. Let’s see if we could live well for once in our lives,” said Kenia Chacón, mother of the detainee. “Do you think this is the way to live in a country? What father would not want to please his children?” She added while showing his home to the television channel.

The family assured that they will be aware of the young man while he is at the police station and that they will supervise that he be processed respecting his rights.

Departures from Cuba continue at an unstoppable rate, both by sea and by land. This same Sunday, the Police of Puebla (Mexico) arrested four people for alleged migrant smuggling on a bus.

251 people were traveling in the vehicle, 42 of them Cubans, who are now in the custody of the National Institute of Migration. The members of that group, however, were mostly Guatemalans (166) and there were also 17 Ecuadorians, 12 Salvadorans, six Nicaraguans, seven Hondurans and one Peruvian.
