The Cuban pilot who flew from the Island to Florida on an agricultural plane on October 21, he is still being held without bail, a judge in Broward County, north of Miami.
Cuban Rubén Martínez was brought before the judge on Monday after the prosecution informed the magistrate last week that it was not ready to present a case of, presumably, deportation for illegal entry into the United States and without documents. Cuba accuses him of air piracy, although Martínez traveled alone and was in charge of the aircraft.
But this Monday, the prosecution still did not present the case and, although the defense attorney Eduardo Soto requested the granting of bail, the judge preferred to keep him in prison.
The judge has not scheduled a new hearing and Soto said that he remains on the lookout and intends to study the situation to decide the next steps.
Martinez entered the United States aboard an AN-2 single-engine light aircraftand landed at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, located in the middle of the Everglades.
