Cuban pentathletes top the podium at the regional level

The Cuban pentathletes took the podium this Friday among the representatives of North, Central America and the Caribbean (Norceca) during the Open Pan American Modern Pentathlon Championship, which takes place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Marco Rojas, Lester Ders and Juan Pablo Velázquez won the gold, silver and bronze medals, in that order, in the men’s fight at the area level, thus ensuring qualification for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023, as reported the website Hit.

Meanwhile, at the continental level, the Cubans placed sixth, seventh and eighth, in a contest that brought together 18 competitors. In that instance, the Ecuadorian Andrés Torres (1,537 points) won, followed by the Argentines Vicente Lima (1,528) and Franco Serrano (1,521).

As for the pentatetlas of the Island, Rojas added 1,495 units, after placing sixth in fencing, eleventh in swimming, thirteenth in horse riding and third in the combined event of laser pistol shooting and running, reports the specialized media.

Ders, meanwhile, recorded 1,488 points after dominating horsemanship and finishing seventh in the combined, eighth in swimming and eleventh in fencing.

Finally, Velázquez totaled 1,485 and had his best performances in fencing (third) and the combined fight (fourth), but he finished far away in horse riding (15) and swimming (18), according to the bulletin of the event cited by Hit.

On the previous day, the girls from the Island they got the ticket for San Salvador 2023. Diana Leyva, Delmis Pérez and Melissa Garlobo won third place in teams among the countries of the region, while Diana won bronze in the individual contest among the pentathletes of the area.
