Cuban Ministry of Culture highlights the monumental work of Pablo Milanés

OnCubaNews

The Cuban Ministry of Culture (Mincult) highlighted this Tuesday the monumental work and the masterful presentations of the Cuban singer-songwriter Pablo Milanes, who passed away last night at the age of 79 in Madrid.

“Author of a monumental work, his musical legacy constitutes an inescapable reference of Cuban identity and culture and his songs and masterful interpretations are part of the soundtrack of the Cuban Revolution in their own right,” the institution said on its website.

The message, which is limited to the artistic contribution of the legendary intellectual, reflects the extensive and fruitful musical career of Milanés (Havana 1943), which includes “more than 40 phonograms and unforgettable collaborations with numerous Cuban musicians and with several of the greatest artists of Our America and other regions”.

The Mincult note was versioned in Granmathe official organ of the Communist Party of Cuba and other state media, after the president of Cuba himself, Miguel Díaz-Canel, regretted the news and conveyed condolences to the relatives from his Twitter account.

Milanés, author of classics like “Yolanda”, won, among others, the Cuban National Music Award and the Latin Grammy for Musical Excellence.

“Music is everything to me, the best way I find to express myself, the best way to feel and even think. I think that we musicians have another very special language that allows us to communicate, that is something unique”, confessed the artist, born in Bayamo on February 24, 1943.

Last June, Havana hosted his last performance in Cuba. After the controversy on social networks due to the way in which the National Theater would arrange the tickets, it was held at the Ciudad Deportiva. It was a historical event with slight political connotations due to the attitude of the troubadour, a harsh critic of the bureaucracy and the proliferating political ineptitude on the Island.

Milanés was the founder of the Cuban Nueva Trova together with Silvio Rodríguez and the late Noel Nicola, among others. His voice has lightened the daily life of the Cuban, massively since the eighties.

The singer was hospitalized on November 12 in Madrid. The burning chapel will be installed in the San Isidro funeral home in Madrid to be fired by his family and friends.
