The Cuban Maydenia Sarduy conquered the female individual title of the recurve bow, corresponding to the Cup Merengue de Arquería that concluded this Saturday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
La Matanzas defeated Ecuadorian Adriana Espinoza 6-5 in the final, in a very close match that was defined as a tiebreaker, according to a note published on the sports portal Jit.
The media adds that there was extreme tension in the definition of the scepter, in the Parque del Este of the Dominican capital, when in the tiebreaker shot the South American sent her arrow to the 8 of the target and the Cuban responded with an 8+.
In addition to the title, Maydenia had contributed all her experience this Friday to guide the island’s squad to ensure classification as a team for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023.
For this performance, she had the contribution of Liduveinys Sierra and Yailín Paredes, who must also accompany her to the appointment of the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, at the end of next June, the publication highlights.

The Cuban representation also celebrated this Saturday with the bronze medal obtained by Hugo Franco in the resource arch for men. After losing in the semifinals to Guatemalan Thomas Flossbach, the man from Pinar del Río adjusted his sights and swept Puerto Rican Adrián Muñoz 6-0.
Before, Hugo together with the young Javier Vega and Juan José Santiesteban had ensured the presence of Cuba in the multi-sport event in the Chilean capital.
According to Jit, in the compound bow modality the forecasts were met and Aismary Breijo and Omar Sabido will return home without those tickets, because in the short time they have been practicing with that weapon they have not managed to reach the level of the best figures on the continent.
