Cuban judo says goodbye with two bronzes in the Austrian Open

The cuban judo He won two bronze medals this Sunday at the closing of the European Judo Open in Oberwart, Austria, according to official media reports.

One of the bronzed metals was at the hands of the experienced Andy Granda (+100 kg), despite falling in his first match of the tournament. The other medal was won by Nairelis Fuentes (-70 kg) by defeating by hansoku-make the judoka from the Netherlands, Donja Vos, in the fight for third place.

Before the Cuban had triumphed by ippon over the Swiss Alina Lengweiler in her first outing, to later fall to the Hungarian Szabina Gercsak in the same way. Already in the playoffs, she left the Turkish Minel Akdeniz on the way and thus advanced to the discussion of the bronze medal, the sports publication reports.

On the final day of the Austrian Open, Naomis Elizarde (+78 kg) also fought for Cuba, who achieved a couple of successes and the same number of failures and was on the verge of the podium after falling by ippon in the bronze discussion against the Croatian Tina Radic.

Meanwhile, Yasel Baeza (-81 kg) won his first two fights on the fast track, but then lost to Frenchman Nicolas Chilard and Hungarian Robert Rajkai, and did not fight for a medal. Neither could Heriberto Rivero (-100 kg), who said goodbye to the Austrian event with one victory and two defeats.

Finally, Cuba finished its performance in the tournament with a title, a subtitle and the two bronze medals on Sunday, thanks to the medals won in the previous day by Melisa Hurtado (gold) and Vanesa Godínez (silver).

In this way, the largest of the Antilles was ranked sixth among 37 countries, in a contest dominated by France with three gold, another three silver and one bronze. Switzerland (2-1-0), Hungary (2-0-3), Georgia (2-0-2) and Turkmenistan (2-0-0), were also ahead of the Island, which did not attend with its main figures.
