The BioCubaCafé project, which for more than two years has been developed by the Agroforestry Business Group with the cooperation of the Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba (AICEC) and the Lavazza Group, both from Italyreceived the International Organic Certification, according to official media reports.
This endorsement is of great importance for the commercialization in the international market of the coffee Arabica and Robusta that, without chemical components, are produced and processed by some 170 coffee growers from nine municipalities in Eastern Cuba who have joined the project, refers a report of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
The quality and competitive level of this exportable line have been recognized by the Control Union Certifications consultancy —based in Lima, Peru—, as verified by the media when accessing the document in question.
That regulatory entity inspected more than two months ago the comprehensive management of the crop, a practice present in some 1,470 hectares concentrated in the mountainous landscapes of the municipalities of Buey Arriba, Bartolomé Masó and Guisa, in the province of Granma; and from II Front, III Front, Guamá, San Luis, La Maya and Contramaestre, in Santiago de Cubaadd the source.

BioCubaCafé aims to achieve a cuban coffee under organic principles, from the introduction of new technologies to change the current paradigm of the production of this product in Cuba. The directors of the branch assure that there is potential to achieve it, the publication points out.
Although it is planned to extend it to other territories, for now, in addition to the 170 selected producers, 11 pulpers, two dry benefit centers and an export company participate, all with the endorsement granted by Control Union Certifications.
At the recent XVII Expocaribe International Fair, held in Santiago de Cuba, Robeldi Nicot Terreno, president of the Agroforestry Business Group, and Michele Curto, president of the Italian Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange, presented the project and spoke of the need to show the entire chain from cultivation to distribution and sale, recalls the ACN.
According to the agency, the proposal of the farmers and cooperative members incorporated into BioCubaCafé was recently presented with great acceptance in the Italian city of Milan, during the World of Coffee, the most important coffee trade fair in Europe, in which the main suppliers participated. of the coffee industry, coming from twenty countries.
The results of the project and the international certification granted should benefit the producers and their quality of life, as part of the comprehensive recovery in the mountains of the eastern region and the prospects for organic production in Cuba, the report states.
According to managers, referred by the ACNthe coffee exported by the Island is fundamentally the Arabica variety, the highest quality for its qualities and which is produced in mountainous areas from its microclimates.
