Cuban handball team advances to the semifinal of the Emerging Countries World Cup

The Cuban men’s national team handball He achieved his ticket to the semifinals this Wednesday in the World Championship of Emerging Countries, which in its fourth edition hosts the city of Varna, in Bulgaria.

The team from Cuba, which is part of group C, defeated their counterpart from Guatemala with a score of 27 goals to 17 to achieve their second victory in that competition, according to a report of the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

Once again, Hanser Rodríguez led the national team’s offense by scoring seven goals for the second consecutive day, while goalkeeper Magnol Suárez was chosen as the most valuable of the game.

In the previous day, the Cuban team had defeated the representation of the United Kingdom 32-28 to start their actions in that tournament on the right foot, the information added.

In this universal contest, 12 teams divided into four groups compete, and the leaders of each group advance to the semifinals.

Group A is made up of the teams from Malta, Andorra and India; by B appear Cyprus, Moldova and Australia; while in the D are the Bulgarian premises, along with Azerbaijan and Nigeria, specifies the ACN.

The semifinal round will be on Saturday, April 29 and if there are no surprises, the Cuban cast will have to face the host, the favorite to prevail in their segment. A day later the title and the bronze medal will be disputed.

Four years ago, Cuba won the silver medal in the III Emerging Nations World Handball Championship, under-24 category, which was hosted by the city of Tbilisi, Georgia.

On that occasion they lost 21-31 to the Georgian hosts, in the title discussion.
