Madrid Spain.- In the midst of the acute food crisis affecting the Cuban people, the regime announced that the fishing industry companies in Granma will exceed the lobster fishery plan for export planned for the current year.

“For this last semester of the year, it is intended to reach 218.1 tons of the coveted crustacean in Niquerian waters, which defines compliance with the fishery plan for 2022 set at about 200 tons,” Rusbel González Remón told the state press, in front of the Development Group of the Industrial Fishing Company of Granma (Epigran).

According to information shared this weekend by the local media The Demajaguathe InduNiq Base Business Unit, located in Niquero, had a plan for the month of July of 44 tons, and in nine days it achieved 52.

“Regardless of the current energy situation, we processed the 52 tons of lobster obtaining an industrial use of over 87 percent. Result that places us among the best at the national level”, said Jorge Rosa Acuña, plant manager of said unit.

Acuña also referred to the start-up of a new freezing tunnel and a plate freezer that multiplied the lobster storage capacity.

Meanwhile, the shortage of basic and essential foods in Cuba is affecting the adequate nutrition of Cubans on their feet, for whom every day is an ordeal to get the food to put on the table.

They recently transcended images on social networks of elderly people rummaging through three garbage tanks in Havana, in which several boxes of bananas, peppers and avocados were thrown.

At the beginning of this month, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) asked the Cuban Government to act in the face of the drug and food crisis, aggravated during the last year.

Due to the food shortage, which “currently constitutes one of the main challenges faced by the population, revealing a situation of extreme socioeconomic vulnerability and food insecurity in the country”, the Commission reiterated “its call on the State to carry out concrete actions to guarantee all people, without discrimination, access to adequate food or the means to obtain it, and that urgent action be taken to ensure that there is a sufficient and affordable supply of food to meet national demand, especially ensuring the protection of populations in greater vulnerability condition.
