In the midst of the complex economic and financial context, the country ensures water supply and sanitation services to the population, said today Inés María Chapman Waugh, deputy prime minister of the Republic.
At the annual work meeting of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH), he recognized that system that fulfilled its mission last year despite its many challenges and the effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States and the pandemic.
Regarding this last aspect, Antonio Rodríguez Rodríguez, president of the INRH, described confronting the disease as a challenge, since they supplied water in economic activities, as well as the necessary levels in hospitals and isolation centers, and in the biopharmaceutical industry for preparation of medicines.
The Vice Prime Minister in the main words urged to seek alternatives from science to replace imports of parts and equipment, increase the efficiency of the agency and its companies and work quickly on the priorities defined for 2022.
Chapman Waugh emphasized the need to increase the use of renewable energy sources in hydraulic resources, taking into account that it is one of the sectors that consumes the most electricity.
He called for the implementation of inspection and control systems from the territories in relation to the population’s proposals, which decreased in 2021 and more than 2,600 of them were resolved.
One of the objectives for 2022 is the development of the infrastructure with the rehabilitation of dams and micro-dams with limited filling capacity, in addition to the completion of pumping equipment, with the purpose of increasing accessibility to safe sources of supply.
Among the most important priorities of the capital are the rehabilitations to eliminate the piped water service to the more than seven thousand inhabitants who still receive the precious liquid through this route, and the progress in the works in flood zones.
Almost 500 works were completed in 2021 in order to solve problems related to the drought, shorten the cycles of water supply and sanitation works that benefited more than one million 184 thousand Cubans.
The check-up, carried out in the Ministry of Communications theater, was also presided over by Eduardo Concepción Morales, deputy head of the production and services department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and Misael Rodríguez Llanes, top leader of the Construction Workers Union, in addition to cadres and directors of INRH.
