President Miguel Diaz-Canel stressed this thursday the “strong commitment” to the development of the nations that make up the Group of 77 and China (G77+China), of which he assumes the presidency for one year.
“Cuba formally assumes today the one-year presidency of the G77+China, with a strong commitment to work for the development of nations with which we share a history of abuses against our peoples, but also common goals and hopes,” he wrote on Twitter.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex), this is the first time that Cuba chairs this group, which brings together more countries within the UN, currently with 134 members.
The Cuban executive, who calls the G77+China a forum “for dialogue and consultation,” added that it is a high honor and a great responsibility for Cuba “to preside over this multilateral initiative.
To participate in the inauguration Since Wednesday, the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, has been in New York as chair of the group.
The Cuban delegation is also made up of the permanent representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta.
