The Cuban government reported a discreet recovery of economic activity in the country, at this stage, propitiated by the control of the Covid-19 pandemic, at the end of the week today.
During the meeting of the Council of Ministers corresponding to the month of March, it was learned that in the month of February the goods export plan was fulfilled, agricultural products had a better behavior in the markets and tourism showed discreet advances.
The President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, who led the analysis, said that the priorities for the stage should be focused on increasing production; improve the supply of food and medicine, and public transportation; anti-inflationary measures and stability in the electrical system.
The economic issue was also the focus of the discussions at the monthly meeting of the country’s leadership with the heads of the municipal assemblies of People’s Power, in which an update on the current status of the Economic and Social Strategy was provided.
The deputy prime minister and head of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil, said at the meeting that this year 158 measures are expected to be applied as part of this mechanism, which requires greater autonomy and management of local governments for its correct implementation.
Gil explained that although there is a recovery in economic activity, which experienced a drop in Gross Domestic Product of 13 percent last year, it is still far from the activity levels of 2018 and even 2019.
This week also continued the execution of the schedule of provincial assemblies of the Communist Party of Cuba in which the agreements of the VIII Congress of the organization held last April are followed up.
With the partisan forum this Saturday in the province of Camagüey, a week culminates in which balances were also made in Holguín and Granma, in the east of the archipelago, which updated the leadership structure and established work priorities in those territories. to support economic activity, political-ideological work and contact with communities.
