Cuban government congratulates the new president of the United Arab Emirates

The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, congratulated and wished success this Sunday to Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his appointment as the new president of United Arab Emirates (UAE) after the death of the previous head of state, Khalifa bin Zayed.

“Cordial congratulations on behalf of the Cuban people and Government to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his election as president of the United Arab Emirates,” said the island’s ruler in a message posted on Twitter.

Díaz-Canel also wished the new UAE president “success in his duties” and reaffirmed his willingness to continue strengthening bilateral ties.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez also congratulated Bin Zayed on his appointment on Twitter and advocated “continuing to strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation.”

According to the Spanish agency Ephafter serving for almost a decade as the ‘de facto’ leader of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was appointed on Saturday as the new president of the country, one of the most developed in the Middle East, which seeks to become the main power of the region.

Cuba and the United Arab Emirates want to boost their trade relations

Cuba and the UAE established diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level in 2002.

In 2015, the UAE Foreign Minister, Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, inaugurated his country’s embassy in Cuba and signed an air services agreement with the Caribbean country.

Cuba and the United Arab Emirates signed several cooperation agreements on Culture and Health, about a visit of the Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment to Dubai in February of this year.
