MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban Government announced this week that a new university course will be opened in Cuba: Transportation Engineering.
The announcement was made by the president of the national race commission, Juan Cogollos, during the FITL 2022 International Transport and Logistics Fair, which was held during these days in Havana.
According to Cogollos, quoted by the EFE agency, the new specialty has arisen from “the need to recover and modernize transportation in Cuba, which is currently experiencing serious difficulties.”
The new discipline will train specialists for the country’s development projections, in line with global trends; as well as for the administration of human and material resources in the transport sector, the professor specified.
He also pointed out that the base of the profession will be the management of logistics processes associated with the sector, including seaports and airports, and systems for transporting goods and people.
“The new Transportation engineer will participate in the technology transfer processes, will act with economic awareness taking into account the Cuban reality, and will dominate legal elements related to his professional activity,” he added.
The study program may be carried out through daytime courses, for four years, or by meeting for five years; and includes subjects such as transport engineering, electricity and automation, statistics and operational research, economics and process management, and transport technology and operation.
According to the information, upon completion of their studies, graduates will be able to work in the Ministry of Transport and its dependencies.
The International Transport and Logistics Fair was inaugurated last Tuesday at the Pabexpo fairgrounds.
Last April, the First Deputy Minister of Transport, Marta Oramas Rivero, had indicated that the capital was going through the worst crisis in public transport services in the last decade, and that the Provincial Transport Company of Havana, the main operator, kept in operation only 442 means that transported more than 580,000 people daily, a figure that is far from the 780 scheduled buses three years ago, with a 20% reserve.”
