Cuban Foreign Ministry holds meeting with directors of the International Committee of the Red Cross

The General Directorate of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), held a meeting today to assess the state of bilateral relations.

A note from the Foreign Ministry on its website states that the meeting took place within the framework of the traditional dialogue mechanism between both parties.

According to the information, the positive state of bilateral relations was verified at the meeting and it was agreed to resume the annual official talks in 2022, postponed in the last two years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cuban representation, headed by the General Director of Multilateral Affairs and International Law, Rodolfo Benítez Verson, highlighted the important work carried out by the ICRC in the world.

The Committee recognized Cuba’s activism in international forums, promoting compliance with the norms of International Humanitarian Law, and sharing its valuable experiences, for example, in handling natural disasters and sending medical missions to other countries in need. .

The ICRC group was chaired by Marisela Silva Chau, head of the organization’s Regional Delegation for Panama and the Caribbean.
