The Cuban foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez, rejected the presence of Cuba on the United States’ black list of human trafficking.
Rodríguez reacted on Twitter to the island maintenance in that listingas confirmed by a report presented this Thursday by the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
“Lacking its own policy, the (Joe) Biden government repeats (Donald) Trump’s lies that link Cuba’s international medical cooperation to human trafficking,” the head of Cuban diplomacy wrote on that social network.
Rodríguez considered that Washington’s decision has the “real purpose” of “justifying suffocation measures against the Cuban population.”
In addition, he assured that “Cuba maintains its policy of zero tolerance against this scourge.”

According to what was reported this Thursday, the United States kept Cuba on its annual black list of countries that do not do enough to stop human trafficking.
The State Department’s 2023 Trafficking in Persons Report admits that the Havana government “took some steps to address trafficking,” such as reforming the Penal Code, but considers that the missions of Cuban doctors abroad are an obvious case of forced labor, says a report from EFE.
Along with Cuba, the Biden administration also kept Venezuela and Nicaragua on the list for not meeting, in his opinion, the minimum standards in the fight against trafficking.
he report, made up this year by 24 countries, also includes Russia, Belarus, China, North Korea, Iran, Syria and Afghanistan, among others, adds the Spanish media.
as he remembers EFECuba was included for the first time in this list on human trafficking, in 2019, during the term of Donald Trump (2017-2021).
