MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban economist and professor Esteban Morales Domínguez died this Wednesday, May 18, in Colombia, where he was visiting.
According to reported the Cuban News Agency (ACN), death was caused by a heart attack, at 79 years of age.
Morales Domínguez was closely linked to the University of Havana. There he was initially trained as an economist. He later devoted himself to teaching and served as dean of the Faculty of Humanities. The University of Havana awarded him prizes for Scientific Work on three occasions.
In addition, he taught master’s courses in International Relations and lectures on Cuba in North American, European and Latin American universities.
He developed an essay related to the links between Cuba and the United States. This includes titles like Cuba-United States: a critical history Y From confrontation to attempts at normalization: United States policy towards Cuba.
He was one of the founders of the academic exchange with the Latin American Studies Association (LASA).
Member of the José Antonio Aponte Commission, he dedicated himself to studying issues related to race on the Island. In this regard, he published in 2007, among others, Challenges of the racial problem in Cuba.
The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), entity to which he belonged, lamented his loss through the social network Twitter.
The UNEAC remembered Esteban Morales Domínguez as “full member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, Doctor in Economic Sciences, political scientist, researcher and professor.”

In 2010, the intellectual was separated from the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) after his article “Corruption, the real counterrevolution?”, published by the UNEAC. However, Morales Domínguez always showed himself to be a sympathizer of the regime.
