Madrid Spain.- The Cuban doctor Alexander Jesús Figueredo, who managed leave Cuba Last April, after months harassed by State Security, he offered details of his dangerous journey through the Darien jungle to reach the United States.
Through your profile Facebook He explained that on his migratory route, passing through Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador, he was in temperatures below 0 and above 38 degrees; he walked more than 100 km, slept on the floor, in a church, crossed trails, rivers, seas and jungles.
“A part of me died in the Darién jungle seeing lost children, drowned and dead people and not being able to do anything, just watch and continue and think that the next one could be me. My physical and human conditions are at the limit. God does not give burdens to any child who cannot bear it, I think the weight has passed with me, since the permanent harassment in Cuba, my profession, my family, and now all this, but it has made me stronger physically and ideologically. I hope that his reward will be to give me strength and life to fight for a free Cuba and to hug my own again, ”said the doctor.
In other publicationaccompanied by a video with several migrants entering the Darién, Figueredo asked the migrants not to do this route with children.
“Dictatorships have to fall one day, it is better to fight to overthrow them than to put our children in the hands of the jungle,” he considered.
When leaving Cuba, from the plane, the doctor had stated: “I will return the day you are free, where thinking differently is not a crime. Where for wanting life they don’t pay you with death. Where they measure you by your intellect, not by your ideology. Only then will I return.”
Alexander Jesús Figueredo, a specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine and a resident of Urology, was disqualified last November from practicing his profession in Cuba, for continuing to denounce the violation of human rights by the regime and the problems of the Cuban health system.
