MÉRIDA, Mexico – Two diplomats from the Cuban embassy in the U.S. met with leftist activists in Atlanta last month.
The meeting, which has now transcended thanks to Marti Newswas hosted by WRFG 89.3FM, a progressive community radio station.
The meeting, which took place on August 22, was attended by Alejandro García del Toro, second head of the Mission of the Cuban Embassy in Washington, and Gabriela Castillo Rodríguez, second secretary of the diplomatic headquarters, According to the media report Workers World.
The Cuban diplomats spoke with members of the groups Black Alliance for Peace, Community Movement Builders, Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace, Workers World Party, Freedom Road Socialist Organization and ANSWER Coalition.
Also present were members of the truckers’ and painters’ unions and the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, housing activists and Stop Cop City, as well as Palestinian students and Amazon workers.
In X, the Atlanta Democratic Socialists of America (ATLDSA) organization also reported on the meeting and said that it was an opportunity to learn “about the harmful impacts of U.S. sanctions against Cuba and the struggle of the people to overcome the blockade.”
Cuban regime propaganda in the US
The Cuban regime systematically attempts to influence left-wing groups in the United States and win over political operatives to its cause.
Recently, for example, the American pro-regime organization The People’s Forum donated around 800 tons of wheat flour to Cuba.
Manolo de los Santos, an American activist close to the Cuban regime and founder of this NGO, a Turkish company was responsible for delivering the donation to Havana after speaking with 14 different companies in the US that refused to sell.
De los Santos said, without providing further details, that the purchase of the flour, in which the “Let Cuba Live” Brigade also participated, was made possible in large part by donations from thousands of people in the United States, “some donated a dollar, others donated thousands.”
Recently, Manolo de los Santos, who recently visited Cuba and met with Díaz-Canel, and The People’s Forum have developed an intense propaganda campaign in favor of the Cuban regime in the United States.
In September of last year, for example, clashes were reported between members of this organization and Cuban exile activists in front of the headquarters of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
