Cuban dancers seek to break the Guinness record for the largest rueda de casino in the world

MIAMI, United States. – Cuban dancers from all provinces hope to break this Sunday the Guinness record for the largest rueda de casino in the world, currently held by Venezuela, according to a reporter from the Prensa Latina agency.

The initiative is part of the international project “Retaking the Son, Bailando Casino”, linked to the National Council of Houses of Culture of Cuba, and will take place this Sunday, May 7, on the eve of the celebration of National Son Day.

Led by the creator Luis Llamo Castillo, the action will take place simultaneously in different locations on the island, as part of the Cuban campaign to seize the title of the largest casino wheel in the world, which in Venezuela involved 1,595 people.

The event will have the support of several cultural institutions and academies that are already working on the organization and promotion of actions to guarantee a large participation in 2024 and achieve the feat, according to the Cubarte website.

The objective of this initiative is to make visible and promote the movement that supports casino dancing in Cuba, a country considered the cradle of this popular genre, which aspires to be recognized as cultural heritage.

The international rise of salsa in the 1970s was a determining factor in the spread of the casino, which has conquered thousands of followers in the most diverse corners of the world. This diffusion has promoted the increase of academies dedicated to teaching this dance that, after more than half a century, continues to live thanks to its spontaneity.
