The General Customs of the Republic (AGR) of Cuba reported new attempts to bring drugs into the island in the first six months of 2022, according to official media.
As reported by the entity at a press conference, “in the first half of the year alone, 11 cases of drug trafficking attempts were detected, a figure that means the same amount reached in 2021,” reports the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
Yosvany Bárcenas González, director of Customs Risk Management and Control, commented that among the infractions detected are those of “travelers employed as mules/couriers in their transfer, mainly liquid and powder cocaine.”
In this sense, he pointed out that there is “greater complexity” in the way of masking this drug from its ingestion and warned about “the danger of accepting orders from other people with prohibited substances and by admitting them assumes the corresponding administrative and criminal responsibility,” he points out. the middle.

The director also referred to the concealment of drugs in skateboards, tools, playpens and cribs for newborns, bags and food containers, among other objects, and also the detection of “travelers with consumption habits” who carry small doses, mainly oil. Cannabis, used in electronic cigarettes
In this regard, he mentioned that “in 41 cases, 65 electronic cigarettes were found with 34 spare capsules containing Cannabis Oil, also discovered in 17 packages of jams and chewing gum, and marijuana stings, cigarette rolling paper and a crusher for its elaboration”, specifies the ACN.
The directors of AGR also reported that so far this year, 129 infractions against natural resources and wild flora and fauna have been located on the border. Among the “species most impacted” by these actions they cited stars, cucumbers and seahorses, as well as hutias and taxidermied crocodiles, quinconte snails, crab mass and bones of different animals.
“The fundamental cause of the confiscation was due to the concealment and the non-presentation before the Customs of the permit of the regulatory authorities, with a greater incidence by non-resident foreigners”, asserts the news office.
To deal with these illicit acts, the entity confirmed the existence on the Island of a government plan to detect them at the border and “promote their prevention to avoid damage.”
