MIAMI, United States.- The General Customs Office of the Republic of Cuba reported this Friday that it is again extending until December 31, 2022 the tariff exemption for food, hygiene and medicines at the points of entry into the country, according to a note in the web page of state body.
“Given that the conditions that supported this measure are maintained, the following has been decided: Extend from July 1 and until December 31 of the current year, on a temporary basis, the non-commercial import of food, cleaning and medicines, by way of passengers as accompanied luggage, without limits in value, quantities and free of payment of tariffs, ”says the note.
According to Customs, “in order to enjoy this benefit, it is a requirement that said products are differentiated, in the accompanied baggage, from articles of another nature.”
“It is also extended until December 31, the tariff benefits granted by the Ministry of Finance and Prices, related to the importation of these products by national entities, as well as for the supplies and raw materials that the authorized entities import to the forms of non-state management”, adds the statement.
Likewise, the state agency announced that “information will continue to be provided to the population in the coming days, through the national media, websites and institutional profiles on social networks of the Ministry of Finance and Prices and the General Customs of the Republic”.
New products
The permission to import medicines without tariffs includes the approval of medical supplies such as diagnostic devices for analysis and biosensors, disposable sanitary masks, masks for administering oxygen, scalpel blades and handles, gloves, syringes, and disposable swabs for adults.
Products such as soap, detergent and preparations for oral hygiene may also be imported, and in the food category the import of non-alcoholic beverages and beer was authorized.
