Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami presents this Saturday ‘Le Corsaire Suite’

ballet

MIAMI, United States.- The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami (CCBM), under the artistic direction of Eriberto Jiménez, will return this Saturday to the Miami-Dade County Auditorium with the work “Le Corsaire Suite”, the fourth program of its 2001-Season. 2022, as reported The Miami Herald.

“Le Corsaire” (“The Corsair”), a one-night ballet, is inspired by the homonymous poem by Lord Byron and premiered in 1856 at the Paris Opera, with music by Adolphe Adam and choreography by Joseph Mazilier.

According to the Herald, although “nobody remembers the original choreography” of “Le Corsaire”, with music that includes additions by other composers such as Cesare Pugni, Léo Delibes and Ricardo Drigo, “sometimes the ballet is presented in its entirety, based on the versions made in Russia by Jules Perrot and Marius Petipa”, and on other occasions as a suite.

“Le Corsaire” tells the story of Conrad and Medora, the captain of a corsair ship and a beautiful enslaved woman. Conrad will be directed by Humberto Rivera Blanco and Medora by Marize Fumero,” the Herald said.

Other roles in the ballet will be performed by Ihosvany González (Ali, Conrad’s slave), Katherine Barkman (Gulnara, Medora’s friend) and Jorge Oscar Sánchez, as the slave trader.

“CCBM’s “Suite Le Corsaire” promises to include all the great moments of ballet. Like his two pas de deux, the famous “Le jardin animé” and the pas de trois de las odalisques”, reads the note.

The Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami was created in 2007 by Pedro Pablo Peña, “with the mission of promoting and preserving the repertoire, technique and style of classical ballet, as exemplified by the famous Cuban School of Ballet.”

According to the Herald, Peña got to know the world of dance in Cuba by having been part of it before settling in the United States and conceived the group because ballet is the type of theatrical dance preferred by Cubans, and because Cubans do not they mind repeatedly going to see the same play, especially if it’s a classic title.

“Le Corsaire Suite” will be presented at 8 pm next Saturday at the Miami Dade County Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at www.cubanclassicalballetofmiami.org, by visiting www.ticketmaster.com, or at the theater box office.
