The Cuban choreographer and dancer Rosario Cárdenas turned 70 yesterday, Friday. Creations of her authorship as Daedalus, Imago, Griffin, Germinal, The angel within and Lullaby, They appear in the repertoire of the company he directs. Her work has taken her to dozens of countries, either as a teacher or with her company.
About his way, he once said: “I needed a conceptual platform where to think, grow and work. He felt that the way he wanted to work needed another type of design, he had to reconstruct the Cuban technique, increase the level of scientificity, study therapeutic methods, the skeleton, and find a way to protect the dancers to avoid injuries to a great extent.” …
“The permutations, combinations, and variations remained as the basis of that structure,” which was also nourished by the image and universality of Cuban culture, with “allusions to our great writers, musicians, and poets,” he explained.
“Defending and valuing the body in all its dimensions, always with elegance, delicacy and a poetic level, left us a mark of authenticity and I like it, we represent the diverse and the dancers identify with that,” he said.
“Over the years, I have managed to integrate different elements, I transferred concepts from Lezama and based on that I have built my system, perhaps it will work for others, that is why I want to put it in writing,” he said.
In a commitment to the interconnection between various artistic expressions, Rosario Cárdenas has collaborated with composers Juan Piñera, José María Vitier, Rembert Egües, Lucía Huergo and Frank Fernández; the architect Roberto Gottardi; the painter Manuel López Oliva and the poets Aitana Alberti and Thiago de Melo.
